Evangeline
When his world travels as a textile industry professional exposed him to the beauty and craft of handmade textiles, Evangeline founder Ben Ray had no choice but to return home with his family to Portland and bring them to the world. He founded the company born from love for his native Maine, and named it after fellow Portland native, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie
This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks, Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight, Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic, Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms. Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
“In every Evangeline piece I hope that I've captured a bit of the wild, the resilience, and the warmth of Maine with simple materials woven to be used daily.” -Ben Ray
