From fiber to finished product, these soft, cozy, pillows are all natural and completely handmade. Bolivian llama and merino wool is hand shorn, carded, spun, and woven on a traditional loom by skilled Bolivian weavers. The woven textiles are then dyed with local plant and vegetable pigments at the TR Handy workshop in Bordeaux, France, before being cut and sewn into beautiful pillows.
TR Handy is a textile house in Bordeaux France. Founded by designer, Marie Silanes, the company crafts home accessories from quality cotton, silk, and Bolivian llama and merino wool. For TR Handy wool pillows, Marie partners with artisans in rural and remote areas of Bolivia who hand weave wool into textiles using traditional Bolivian artisanal processes. She and her team hand dye and print these textiles with dyes they make from local plant pigments, as well as plant-based dyes (like rhubarb and indigo) they purchase from natural dye makers in Europe. The company also screen prints fabrics and textiles using inks made from plant extracts and sometimes even insects.
Plant based dyes come from renewable sources that can be harnessed without harming the environment, and are biodegradable, non-toxic, and non-allergic. Oh, and they’re extremely beautiful.
