The elegant handles and extra sharp blades are forged from a special kind of Japanese steel by metal artisans in Tsubame-Sanjo, an area famous for its metal works and wood works. This steel lends itself to exceptional sharpness and rust resistance.

An acute-angle blade, made from high-quality Japanese steel, ensures that stems are cut cleanly, without harming natural fibers, which ensures a longer life in the vase; the satin-finish handle is similarly both beautiful and functional. “It not only looks good,” Rieko says, “but is also slip-resistant for safety and peace of mind, and will not slip off unexpectedly during work.”

Care:Remove leaf resin, rust and gunk with a Crean Mate and water. Wipe the blades with a soft cloth, then oil with vegetable or machine oil to prevent rust.

Family owned since 1950, Asano Mokkousho was born of the union between Teisuke Asano, a farmer’s son, and his wife, Sakae Sasagawa, daughter of a Tokyo manufacturer. Asano wanted to make farmers’ lives easier by designing and crafting high-quality tools while city dweller Sakae wanted to share her love of nature. They melded their rural and metropolitan values and together founded Asano Mokkousho. Seven decades later the company exports a broad range of authentic Japanese gardening tools all over the world.
