These durable, versatile baskets are handwoven by women weavers in rural Guatemala using sustainable vines and fibers from the Peten Jungle. Intended as simple storage baskets for things like onions and fruit on the counter or linen towels and napkins, they also look striking displayed alone on a shelf or console.
Baskets are unique and capture each weaver’s individual style. Available in Short and Tall.
Itza Wood was founded by Mother-and-Daughter team Suzanne and Eliza Babarczy with a simple mission: to break the poverty cycle in the Peten region of Guatemala. The company showcases products made with exotic tropical hard woods from the Peten Jungle to help fund social initiatives like employment and education that enhance local economic growth. During Covid, many women from surrounding rural communities desperately needed paying jobs. Suzanne and Eliza had been searching for ways to connect them to economic opportunities and found the solution in the jungle. Itza Wood’s Fiber collection initiative has enabled and empowered a group of 20 weavers to learn valuable new skills and to make an income for their families while working from home. Learn more about Itza Wood’s journeys into the jungle in our Journal story here.
