Begonia Rex ‘Escargot’, Begonia Rex Cultorom
Begonia rex is one of the most beautiful and dramatic of the many Begonia types. Sometimes called painted-leaf begonias or fancy-leaf begonias, Rex Begonia ‘Escargot’ is grown for its striking spiral-shaped foliage that curls at the base of the leaf. The snail curl pattern is accented by the spiraling green, silver, and chocolate colors. Small pink flowers grow during the summer. Winner of the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.
One of the easiest houseplants to care for but they will also let you know if their water or light conditions are a bit off. It is a semi-tropical evergreen, rhizomatous perennial with ideal daytime temperatures around 70º-75º to 60º at night. They do not tolerate temperatures below 50º. Can live happily outdoors during the warm months.
Thrives in bright indirect sun, be careful to keep it out of direct sunlight and rotate frequently to equally expose all sides. They thrive in humidity, but be careful if misting leaves so that they don't stay too wet, it's easy to add humidity by placing it over some water + pebbles in a tray. Use a balanced liquid fertilizer weekly at quarter strength or half strength every two weeks except during the winter when plant growth slows.
These lovely plants are easy and low maintenance. Take care as begonias are toxic to cats and dogs.

Temperature swings in shipping can sometimes cause a temporary shock to a plant causing one or two leaves to yellow. This does not impact the health of the plant.
