Cosmos atrosanguineus
Cosmos were first discovered in Mexico in the 1800’s and get their name from their color and red velvet cake-like scent. Early to bloom and among the last flowers still standing in the garden before the first frost arrives, these dark rburgundy blossoms feature velvety petals and almost black centers. We designed these in collaboration with author / stylist, Hilary Robertson and purposely incorporated realistic details of faded leaves and petals, as well as bug holes to capture nature’s nuance. Combine with Black Barlow, Dusty Miller, and Scabiosa as well as Green Amaranthus Spray and don't be afraid to mix with dried flowers as well for a natural mix.
The arrangement in the Tall Ikebana Vase features four stems of Chocolate Cosmos, two stems of Dark Cosmos, one bunch of dried Lunaria and two stems of fresh magnolia leaves, all cut to length.
Note that stems and flower heads are flexible, and can be cut with strong, heavy-duty clippers. Petals and leaves are made of upcycled fabric from PET plastic bottles, while the stem sand leaf bones are Recycled Polyethylene (rPE). These are assembled by hand from ethical producers in China.
