BLACKSAW WAS BORN WITH THE DESIRE TO CREATE MEANINGFUL POSSESSIONS WORTHY OF TAKING UP SPACE IN YOUR LIFE.
During a motorcycle trip into the Andean mountain range in South America, Steph and Kyle Taylor discovered the region’s beautiful alpaca fiber and hatched the idea of building a sustainable business around it. The company’s goal was to create “meaningful possessions” from eco-friendly, sustainable materials; long-lasting, timeless pieces that are worthy of taking up space in your life.
Steph's focus at BLACKSAW is design, brand strategy and creative art direction. Graduating in 2003 with a degree fashion design , Steph went onto work with surf culture mogul, Billabong, for 5 years. Since then, she has continued to design with a juxtaposition of modern and vintage. The result is a counterbalance of loud minimalism.
Kyle focuses on marketing initiatives, brand management and strategic partnerships. Prior to Blacksaw, Kyle worked with iconic surf brand Quiksilver, moving on to California brands Nixon and Roark Revival before travelling for two years across Asia & North and South America.
“It comes down to the details: Premium sustainable fibers, transforming intricate art pieces into reversible textiles, focusing on natural colours to avoid dyes. We wanted to innovate. We managed to accomplish everything on our list, while trying to keep the price down as much as possible. Premium baby alpaca, in our signature weight, at our price point, doesn’t exists in the marketplace.” -Steph Taylor
