Bright indirect light is best for growth, placed by an east or west-facing window. Avoid intense, direct sun, which will burn the plant. Prefers average room temperatures between 50–85°F (10–30°C) and dry environments.

When the ball feels light and dry, submerge 3⁄4 of the kokedama in a glass or metal bowl of water for 10-15 minutes, typically every 2-3 weeks. Gently squeeze out excess water and return it to the saucer. The plant maintains its architectural form naturally, but you can prune stems down to the soil line as needed to maintain shape. Remove any yellowing or dead leaves.

Propagating can be done through stem cuttings placed in water or soil until roots develop.

Stem Cuttings in Water:

1. Cut a healthy stem with at least one leaf using clean shears.
2. Place the cutting in water, ensuring the leaf stays above the surface.
3. Keep in bright, indirect light and change the water weekly.
4. Wait for roots and new leaves to sprout (usually within 2–4 weeks).
5. Transfer to soil once roots are well-developed.

Stem Cuttings in Soil

1. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone (optional).
2. Plant in well-draining soil, such as a mix of potting soil, perlite, and coco coir.
3. Cover with a plastic dome or bag to maintain humidity.
4. Keep soil moist but not soggy, and place in bright, indirect light

When to Repot:
When you begin to see the root structure of the plant protrude out of the moss ball, it's time to consider moving it to a pot.

Repotting Steps:
1. Find a pot: Choose a pot that is roughly 1/2" wider in circumference than the moss ball.
2. Add Potting Soil: Fill the bottom of the pot with well-draining potting soil. Add enough soil so that when the ball is placed in the pot, the top of the ball sits slightly above the top of the pot.
3. Place the Ball: Place the entire ball (string and moss included) into the pot and add soil around it.
4. Soil Level: Ensure the top of the ball sits 1/2" above the soil line.
5. Water and Adjust: Water the plant lightly and add additional soil if needed to maintain the proper soil level.

Live plants are shipped on a weather-permitting basis. If the forecast calls for cold temperatures along the shipping route, we'll hold your plant for the minimum number of days required to ship it safely.  Temperature swings in shipping can sometimes cause a temporary shock to a plant causing one or two leaves to yellow. This does not impact the health of the plant. Simply remove the leaves and care for the plant as directed. Live plants cannot be returned or exchanged.
