Native to the lush tropical islands of French Polynesia, the Pothos 'Pearls and Jade' (Epipremnum aureum 'Pearls and Jade') is beloved for its beautifully variegated, heart-shaped leaves. Perfectly suited to the artful simplicity of Kokedama—a traditional Japanese planting technique in which the roots are wrapped in a moss ball—this living sculpture brings vibrancy into your home. Ideal for both novice gardeners and seasoned plant enthusiasts, the 'Pearls and Jade' thrives with moderate watering (once weekly or when the moss ball feels dry) and bright, indirect sunlight for 6-8 hours daily. Gently squeeze out excess water from the moss ball to maintain optimal moisture levels.

With its forgiving nature, the 'Pearls and Jade' adapts gracefully to lower light conditions, and it is best to avoid prolonged direct sun exposure to protect its delicate foliage from scorching. Propagation is straightforward, making it a joy to cultivate and share. Simply select mature stems with visible nodes and leaves, root them first in water, then transition to soil, or plant directly in moist soil with ample indirect sunlight.

Product Care

While the Pothos are forgiving and tolerate occasional drying, they should be watered once a week or when the kokedama ball feels dry. Make sure to squeeze out any excess water after watering them, as they don’t like soggy soil.

The pothos prefers bright, indirect light, and it can adapt to lower light conditions. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. They prefer six to eight hours of bright, indirect sunlight per day
Pearls and Jade are great for propagating. All you need is a robust and mature stem with visible nodes and a few leaves to draw in moisture. For your best chance of success, it is recommended that rooting stem cuttings first in water and then in soil. That said, they can also grow straight from cuttings placed into the ground, provided they have access to plenty of humidity. A little growth hormone on the cutting’s end won’t hurt, either. Make sure to ensure your cuttings have lots and lots of sunlight.

When to Repot:

When you begin to see the root structure of the plant protrude out of the moss ball, it's time to consider moving it to a pot.

Repotting Steps:

Find a pot: Choose a pot that is roughly 1/2" wider in circumference than the moss ball.
Add Potting Soil: Fill the bottom of the pot with potting soil. Add enough soil so that when the ball is placed in the pot, the top of the ball sits slightly above the top of the pot.
Place the Ball: Place the entire ball (string and moss included) into the pot and add soil around it.
Soil Level: Ensure the top of the ball sits 1/2" above the soil line.
Water and Adjust: Water the plant and add additional soil if needed to maintain the proper soil level.To maintain a more compact shape, prune it

These will be shipped directly to you from our grower within 7-10 days; any other Bloomist purchases will be shipped separately. All orders will be shipped via UPS or USPS generally on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, and only in the Continental US; we cannot ship internationally nor to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Live plants are shipped on a weather-permitting basis. If the forecast calls for cold temperatures along the shipping route, we'll hold your plant for the minimum number of days required to ship it safely. Temperature swings in shipping can sometimes cause a temporary shock to a plant causing one or two leaves to yellow. This does not impact the health of the plant. Simply remove the leaves and care for the plant as directed. Live plants cannot be returned or exchanged. Contact us immediately if any issues with your order.
