Sejnania
In the hills of northern Tunisia, not far from the Mediterranean coastline, is Sejnane, a name now synonymous with both the place and an iconic style of pottery-making. Here, the traditional craft has passed from mother to daughter over the generations, with each artist contributing her own ideas to this collective design language. Bloomist is proud to partner here with Zaineb Farhat and Sejnania on the production of our exclusive wood-fired clay beads — and by extension to play a small part in the protection and safeguarding of the centuries of communal knowledge and aesthetic judgment that are invested in every piece produced by these women artisans.
Sejnane pottery was recently classified as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, recognizing its important role in Tunisia's cultural heritage. This award helps protect the skills and subsequently livelihoods of the Sejnane women potters.
