These super sharp steel Pruning Shears are designed and produced entirely in Japan by skilled craftsmen in Tsubame-Sanjo, an area famous for its metal and wood works. Meticulously handmade using traditional metal crafting techniques these elegant yet efficient shears are up for even the toughest tasks. They’re made using a special kind of Japanese stainless steel that lends itself to exceptional sharpness and rust resistance.
The elegance of its Pruning Shears reflects Sakae Sasagawa’s love of gardening: “When we make our shears, we are considering three elements to make people happy when enjoying gardening and ikebana: the blade sharpness and smoothness, the shape of the handle that considers the user, and [creating] a shaft that reliably conveys the gripping force,” says Rieko Asano, granddaughter of founders Teiuke & Sakae Asano.
Care: Wipe and clean the blade with Crean Mate and a soft cloth, then oil with vegetable or machine oil to prevent rust.
We chose to bring you these specific Japanese tools because we admire the maker’s 70+ years of expertise, extraordinary craftsmanship, and use of high-quality materials. Family owned since 1950, Asano Mokkousho was born of the union between Teisuke Asano, a farmer’s son, and his wife, Sakae Sasagawa, daughter of a Tokyo manufacturer. Asano wanted to make farmers’ lives easier by designing and crafting high-quality tools while city dweller Sakae wanted to share her love of nature. They melded their rural and metropolitan values and together founded Asano Mokkousho. Seven decades later the company exports a broad range of authentic Japanese gardening tools all over the world. Designers and human engineers continuously refine the company’s original designs to reflect the needs of the user, ensuring each tool is as comfortable to use as it is efficient. (Read more)
