Gypsophila
Baby’s breath’s scientific genus name gypsophila comes from the Greek words gypos and philos which mean ‘gypsum’ and ‘loving’ respectively, referencing the flower’s preference for growing in gypsum-rich soil.
There are many theories as to how Gypsophila got its name of Baby’s Breath. Stems are often gifted to new or expectant mothers because of their association with the innocence, pureness of children and bay breath’s popularity as baby shower decoration. Others suggest the name derives from their delicate and small scale.
For many years it got a bad rep as a cheap florist filler -but it has truly come of age in the hands of today’s floral stylist using it on it’s own en masse in large containers or as dramatic installations at weddings and events. Versatile as a delicate touch in a small vase, yet easy to fluff out and expand into bold statements in large vases. Three bouquets were used in the large Vintage Grey vase shown here. Perfectly preserved using innovative formulas and the highest quality eco-safe preservatives.
Please note: Due to the natural state of dried botanicals, variation and breakage may occur. No two are alike and sizing is approximate. (You can’t measure nature.)
Shown with Large Vintage Grey Vase; Terra Cotta Bud Vase, Whitewash; Wabi Sabi Vase; Wheat, Stoneware Vase; Textures Branch Vase.
Includes 8oz per bunch.
