Designed by Bloomist in collaboration with renowned stylist/author, Hilary Robertson, this angular ceramic vase is handmade in small batches and slip cast in Brooklyn by product designer and ceramist, Michiko Shimada. The simple form is matte glazed and makes an ideal centerpiece bowl for low Ikebana arrangements, forcing bulbs, or for displaying your favorite plant. It is also designed to be modular.
Use individually as contemporary vases, or stack together to create a single dramatic sculpture or centerpiece vase. If using as a vase, we suggest adding a Brass or Stone Frog. Also available in White.
Originally from Japan, Michiko Shimada attended Parsons School of Design and developed an interest in handcrafted ceramics. After graduation, she worked as a tableware designer for a ceramic manufacturer in New York for several years until she took the leap and began creating her own line of handmade ceramics. Since 2009, Michiko has been working in her Brooklyn studio specializing in slip cast ceramics. Simple, practical, beautiful, and whimsical, Michiko’s work is carefully made in small batches. In the world where so many things are mass produced and disposable, Michiko values craftsmanship, and makes everything – from the original models to finished pieces – completely by hand. (Read more)
