ABOUT MICHIKO SHIMADA
Originally from Japan, Michiko Shimada attended Parsons School of Design and developed an interest in handcrafted ceramics. After graduation, she worked as a tableware designer for a ceramic manufacturer in New York for several years until she took the leap and began creating her own line of handmade ceramics. Since 2009, Michiko has been working in her Brooklyn studio specializing in slip cast ceramics. Simple, practical, beautiful, and whimsical, Michiko’s work is carefully made in small batches. In the world where so many things are mass produced and disposable, Michiko values craftsmanship, and makes everything – from the original models to finished pieces – completely by hand.
