This rigorously handcrafted Japanese Trowel is designed and produced entirely in Japan by skilled craftsmen in Tsubame-Sanjo, an area famous for its metal and wood works. The handle is made from environmentally sustainable Snow Beech wood and crafted to fit your hand. Japanese Snow Beech is responsibly forested in the snowy Niigata Prefecture and is prized for its thick, straight trunk and fine-grained white wood. The trowel blade is forged by metal artisans using a special Japanese stainless steel that is extra sharp and rust resistant.
Care: Wipe the blade with a soft cloth, then oil with vegetable or machine oil to prevent rust.
We chose to bring you these specific Japanese tools because we admire the maker’s 70+ years of expertise, extraordinary craftsmanship, and use of high-quality materials. Family owned since 1950, Asano Mokkousho was born of the union between Teisuke Asano, a farmer’s son, and his wife, Sakae Sasagawa, daughter of a Tokyo manufacturer. Asano wanted to make farmers’ lives easier by designing and crafting high-quality tools while city dweller Sakae wanted to share her love of nature. They melded their rural and metropolitan values and together founded Asano Mokkousho. Seven decades later the company exports a broad range of authentic Japanese gardening tools all over the world. Designers and human engineers continuously refine the company’s original designs to reflect the needs of the user, ensuring each tool is as comfortable to use as it is efficient. (Read more)
