Cosmos atrosanguineus

Cosmos were first discovered in Mexico in the 1800’s and get their name from their color and red velvet cake-like scent. Early to bloom and among the last flowers still standing in the garden before the first frost arrives, these dark red blossoms feature velvety petals and almost black centers. We designed these in collaboration with author / stylist, Hilary Robertson and purposely incorporated realistic details of faded leaves and petals, as well as bug holes to capture nature’s nuance. Combine with Chocolate Cosmos and Heirloom Roses, and mix with dried and fresh flowers as well as faux botanicals.

The large arrangement in the White Buranchi vase features two stems of Black Barlow, two stems of Chocolate Cosmos and two stems of Dusty Miller, cut to various lengths. The arrangement in the tall Ikebana vase features four stems of Chocolate Cosmos, two stems of Dark Cosmos, one bunch of Dried Lunaria and two stems of fresh magnolia leaves, all cut to length.

Note that stems and flower heads are flexible, and can be cut with strong, heavy-duty clippers. Petals and leaves are made of upcycled fabric from PET plastic bottles, while the stem sand leaf bones are bioplastic.
